Wait a minute! No Hondurans yet. But we're working on it.
The Francisco Ramón Díaz Zelaya National Conservatory.
Founded in 1936, the Francisco Ramón Díaz Zelaya National Conservatory of Music in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, is one of the most recently established conservatories in Latin America. A dependency of the Secretariat of Cultural Arts and Sports, the conservatory admits children as young as seven years of age into a program called the “basic musical cycle.” Upon completion of the basic cycle students enter into a more advanced program, the culmination of which is the receipt of a professional degree that academically is roughly equivalent to a high school diploma in the U.S. Both programs take approximately three years to complete. In addition, the conservatory operates a somewhat less structured program on Saturdays for the benefit of those unable to attend Monday through Friday class sessions. Students enjoy ample opportunities for performance; the conservatory maintains a symphonic youth band and a youth orchestra as well as chamber ensembles for winds, strings and percussion. Most of the conservatory faculty are graduates of the conservatory.
